A Brief Understanding

Singapore Airlines Staff Union (SIASU) has under its umbrella 15 Union Branches (S.I.A Divisions), of which Cabin Crew Union, is one of them.

Union Elections are conducted every three (03) years by all the Branches. There are in total 71 delegates from the various Branches, of which 20 delegates are from Cabin Crew Division.

Each branch will have their own committee and will serve its own memberships in daily day to day operations.

From the 71 delegates elected, 69 have voting rights and these 69 will vote amongst themselves, 23 delegates to sit in the Executive Council (Ex-Co). Currently, Cabin Crew Division has 04 of its delegates in the Ex-Co, assuming the positions of President, Vice-President, Assistant General Secretary and Committee Member. In addition, Cabin Crew Branch has also 01 delegate appointed as Trustee in the Ex-Co.

All Union members from the various branches thus come under the ambit of SIASU.

Any unresolved grievances at Branch level will be forwarded to the Ex-Co who will then seek redress with higher Management of S.I.A to resolve the issue.

SIASU, as with other Unions in Singapore, falls under the umbrella of NTUC. The 23 delegates in SIASU, together with other Ex-Co members of other unions in Singapore, will during the NTUC Triennial Delegates Conference, cast votes to elect delegates to sit in the Central Committee of NTUC.

Some of you may ask, what happens to my $9.00 contribution every month.

The breakdown is such......

25% or $2.25 goes to NTUC as affiliated membership fees.

75% or $6.75 goes to SIASU for various day to day operational expenditures, SIASU education bursary (which is opened to all members and their families) and all other SIASU cash benefits

Any balance will go to SIASU sinking fund.

The 13th month contribution will go to Singapore Labour Foundation (SLF) as membership fees. All union members are automatically registered as member of this umbrella body.

Union members are covered up to $30,000/- under SLF insurance scheme for death or permanent disabilities. Spouses of union members are also covered for death or permanent total disability in any circumstances.
